    It's Been a While

Haven't posted in a while which means I'm bowling bad.  That ball change turned out to be not as good as I thought.  I pretty much maxed out at 630, and it was becoming increasingly obvious that that wasn't going to get it done.  Fortunately, Monday night is broken into thirds.  After 9 weeks it was clear that we had no chance at making any money on the first third so we could take the opportunity to make huge adjustments and aggressive ball changes in an attempt to find something that works.  If we make the wrong move, we lose more points-not a really a negative-and our average goes down-definitely a positive.  Week one of experimenting led to a 490 series.  I used two different balls on about 5 different target lines and 2 or 3 different releases.  Obviously, none was the right one.

Week two of experimentation is a totally different story.  Another ball on a line I really hadn't explored that much.  Hmmm, what's this?  Front 9?  On top of it, eight of them were pure.  I did get some shim on the 6th or 7th, but I was throwing it good and getting a good reaction.  Until the 10th when I threw it awful failing to even  make contact with the head pin.  Oh well, 276 I will take the way things have been going.  Second game was like deja vu of previous weeks.  My line started breaking down and no adjustment I made seemed to work.  Then, I realized one of the guys we were bowling who had been right on top of me had moved two arrows left.  Maybe I'll try that.  Four bagger to salvage a 201.  Hopefully, that will be the right move every week.  Third game was probably the best 207 I've ever thrown.  Strike, 2 pin cover, triple, blow out 7 pin cover, strike, stoned 8 cover, strike, yank city for a 4-10 in the 10th.

One more week of experimentation next week and then the records start fresh.  Hopefully, I will have everything put together by then.

    Not Clutch

    Friday, October 5, 2007, 04:04 PM [General]

I made a great ball change this week.  I also executed shots much better so things were looking up.  I was pretty consistent first game with not a ton of strikes but I made all my spares.  The problem came in the tenth.  We had three points locked up by myself, Alex, and Steve, but I still needed to double to lock up the team game.  If I marked in any way, there last guy would still need to double.  He got his first one.  I felt good with strikes in 3 of the last four frames.  Of course I pinched it a little-4 pin.  The other guys flushed his so we get the near impossible 3 points for the second time this year.  The second game was beautiful.  I took advantage of 2 ugly strikes to shoot 247 and we swept the points for the first time this year.  With a 170 point victory we also had total locked up.  I had my first hole in the 3rd frame of game three.  Chopped the 2-4-7 to knock me out of the 30 clean pot.  It didn't matter much when I went 4-6 a couple frames later.  Fortunately my guy was totally lost so I was on my way to an easy sweep.  We got to the tenth trailing by a good margin, but those guys kept leaving holes.  With just the anchors to go I actually could double to shut out.  Then he went 4-6.  I just need a mark, now.  Got the ball right on line, but I was too amped up to put these guys away and I lofted it with speed.  2-10 gag job.  I still could make it and win.  Got the ball to the left of the 2 but not quite far enough.  We lost a total of 12 points, but 6 of them were by a total of 18 pins.  Anyway, much more positives than negatives.  I felt very comfortable all night and I love the look the I have with the Ultimate Inferno.  I'm looking for much more positive things next week and look forward to performing in the clutch the way I have so many times before.
